July 8, 2013, Billerica, MA — EMD Millipore, the Life Science division of Merck KGaA, Darmstadt, Germany, today announced this year’s recipients of the 2013 EMD Millipore Scholarship Program, each of whom is eligible to receive $5,000 for college undergraduate study, renewable for an additional three years, for a total of $20,000 each. This year’s recipients are Emily Caron, daughter of EMD Millipore employee Roger Caron and Alexander Murphy, stepson of EMD Millipore employee Heather Sue Murphy. Recipients are chosen on the basis of work experience, unique personal or family circumstances, school and community activities, academic record, honors, and a statement of educational and career goals. Through its scholarship program, EMD Millipore supports children of employees as they work towards personal and professional goals.
Upon graduating from Havre de Grace High School in Havre de Grace, Maryland. Emily plans to attend Towson University as a math major. During high school, she was on the Principal's Distinguished Honor Roll and was a member of the National Honor Society. Emily also received the Judith Resnick Award for excellence in math and science, as well as the Charlie Riley Service Award for exceptional achievements in student and community activities.
Alexander plans to study Biomedical Engineering while attending Worcester Polytechnic Institute next fall. He was a member of the National Honor Society and Vice President of the American Red Cross Club at Shrewsbury High School in Shrewsbury, MA.
Since 1992, the EMD Millipore Scholarship Program has awarded a total of $810,000 to 43 children of EMD Millipore employees for undergraduate study at an accredited college or university. Scholarship recipients are evaluated and selected by Scholarship America, a national, nonprofit scholarship management services organization in St. Peter, Minnesota.
