Alternate Names
  • Dax1
  • Nuclear receptor subfamily 0 group B member 1
  • DSS-AHC critical region on the X chromosome protein 1
  • Nuclear receptor DAX-1
  • AHC
Background InformationDAX-1 is an orphan nuclear receptor and is required for the normal development of the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal-gonadal axis formation. Defects in DAX-1 are the cause of X-linked adrenal hypoplasia congenital (XL-AHC); also known as X-linked Addison disease (AHX). DAX-1 also has a role in the development of the embryo and in the maintenance of embryonic stem cell pluripotency by acting as a negative regulator of Oct3/4 in ES cells.
