Description

DescriptionAnti-Drebrin A/E Antibody
Alternate Names
  • Developmentally-regulated brain protein
  • drebrin 1
  • drebrin E
  • drebrin E2
Background InformationThe developmentally-regulated neuron-specific protein, Drebrin A, is expressed first at the time of outgrowth and maturation of dendrites, and is localized within dendrites of the adult brain. Drebrin E+A- signals have been observed in the cell bodies of migrating neuroblasts in the core region; however, only fibrous and punctate drebrin E+A- signals were observed in postmigratory neuroblasts at the outer layers. Studies have demonstrated that the disappearance of drebrin E+A- signals from the cell body coincides with the cessation of neuronal migration. The disappearance of drebrin E from the cell body may be a molecular switch for the cessation of migration in newly generated neuroblast

Entrez Gene Number
Entrez Gene SummaryThe protein encoded by this gene is a cytoplasmic actin-binding protein thought to play a role in the process of neuronal growth. It is a member of the drebrin family of proteins that are developmentally regulated in the brain. A decrease in the amount of this protein in the brain has been implicated as a possible contributing factor in the pathogenesis of memory disturbance in Alzheimer's disease. At least two alternative splice variants encoding different protein isoforms have been described for this gene. [provided by RefSeq]

  • drebrin-1
Purification MethodAntigen Affinity Purified
UniProt Number
UniProt SummaryFUNCTION: Drebrins might play some role in cell migration, extension of neuronal processes and plasticity of dendrites, respectively.

SUBUNIT STRUCTURE: Binds F-actin.

SUBCELLULAR LOCATION: Cytoplasm.

TISSUE SPECIFICITY: Brain neurons.

MISCELLANEOUS: Drebrins are classified into two forms of the embryonic type (E1 and E2) and one form of the adult type (A). The time course of their appearance are different from each other. Their structures are closely related. Adult rat brain expresses only drebrin A while drebrin E1 or E2 is observed in immature animals.

SEQUENCE SIMILARITIES: Contains 1 ADF-H domain.

Molecular Weight~77 kDa
