Biological Information
ImmunogenRat brain microtubule-associated protein.
CloneHM-1
HostMouse
SpecificityReacts specifically with MAP1 (also known as MAP 1a) on immunoblots of whole brain homogenate proteins. Shows selective staining of neurons and stronger staining of axons and dendrites in immunohistochemistry staining of brain tissue. Stains both the cell bodies and dendritic trees. No cross-reactivity observed to other MAPs or tubulin.
IsotypeIgG1

Antibody TypeMonoclonal Antibody
Entrez Gene Number
Entrez Gene SummaryThis gene encodes a protein that belongs to the microtubule-associated protein family. The proteins of this family are thought to be involved in microtubule assembly, which is an essential step in neurogenesis. The product of this gene is a precursor polypeptide that presumably undergoes proteolytic processing to generate the final MAP1A heavy chain and LC2 light chain. Expression of this gene is almost exclusively in the brain. Studies of the rat microtubule-associated protein 1A gene suggested a role in early events of spinal cord development.
Gene Symbol
  • MAP1A
  • FLJ77111
  • MTAP1A
  • MAP1L
UniProt Number
UniProt SummaryFUNCTION: SwissProt: P78559 # Structural protein involved in the filamentous cross- bridging between microtubules and other skeletal elements.
SIZE: 2805 amino acids; 306482 Da
SUBUNIT: 3 different light chains, LC1, LC2 and LC3, can associate with MAP1A and MAP1B proteins. Interacts with guanylate kinase- like domain of DLG1, DLG2 and DLG4 (By similarity).
TISSUE SPECIFICITY: Brain.
DOMAIN: SwissProt: P78559 The basic region containing the repeats may be responsible for the binding of MAP1A to microtubules.
PTM: Phosphorylated upon DNA damage, probably by ATM or ATR. & LC2 is generated from MAP1A by proteolytic processing.
SIMILARITY: Belongs to the MAP1 family.

Usage Statement
  • Unless otherwise stated in our catalog or other company documentation accompanying the product(s), our products are intended for research use only and are not to be used for any other purpose, which includes but is not limited to, unauthorized commercial uses, in vitro diagnostic uses, ex vivo or in vivo therapeutic uses or any type of consumption or application to humans or animals.
Storage and Shipping Information
Storage ConditionsMaintain at -20°C in undiluted aliquots for up to 12 months after date of receipt. Avoid repeated freeze/thaw cycles.

During shipment, small volumes of antibody will occasionally become entrapped in the seal of the product vial. For antibodies with volumes of 200 μL or less, we recommend gently tapping the vial on a hard surface or briefly centrifuging the vial in a tabletop centrifuge to dislodge any liquid in the container's cap.
