Entrez Gene Number
Entrez Gene SummaryThe origin recognition complex (ORC) is a highly conserved six subunit protein complex essential for the initiation of the DNA replication in eukaryotic cells. Studies in yeast demonstrated that ORC binds specifically to origins of replication and serves as a platform for the assembly of additional initiation factors such as Cdc6 and Mcm proteins. The protein encoded by this gene is a subunit of the ORC complex. It has been shown that this protein and and ORC1L are loosely associated with the core complex consisting of ORC2L, -3L, -4L and -5L. Gene silencing studies with small interfering RNA demonstrated that this protein plays an essential role in coordinating chromosome replication and segregation with cytokinesis.

Purification MethodProtein G Purified
UniProt Number
UniProt SummaryFUNCTION: SwissProt: Q9Y5N6 # Component of the origin recognition complex (ORC) that binds origins of replication. It has a role in both chromosomal replication and mating type transcriptional silencing. Binds to the ARS consensus sequence (ACS) of origins of replication in an ATP-dependent manner.
SIZE: 252 amino acids; 28107 Da
SUBUNIT: ORC is composed of six subunits. Interacts with DBF4 (By similarity).
SUBCELLULAR LOCATION: Nucleus.
PTM: Phosphorylated upon DNA damage, probably by ATM or ATR.
SIMILARITY: SwissProt: Q9Y5N6 ## Belongs to the ORC6 family.
Molecular Weight30kDa. A non specific protein was also detected at Mr 120kDa.
