OverviewSingle chain vitamin K-dependent protein produced by osteoblasts. Osteocalcin purified from bovine bone. Binds to phospholipid vesicles in the presence of Ca2+ (Kd = 6 µM). Also binds hydroxylapatite. A good marker of bone turnover. May play a role in bone mineralization, bone resorption, and bone formation.
