      Alternate Names
      • Protein wntless homolog
      • Integral membrane protein GPR177
      • Protein evenness interrupted homolog
      • Putative NF-kappa-B-activating protein 373
      • WLS
      • EVI
Background InformationGpr177 (WLS, EVI), the mouse ortholog of Drosophila WIs, is expressed during mouse embryogenesis. It is essential for the patterning of the anterior-posterior axis during mammalian development and is activated by â-catenin and LEF/TCF-dependent transcription. Upon GPR177 activation, Wnt binds with and modifies the cellular distribution of GPR177, leading to a feedback regulatory mechanism involving Wnt expression and signaling.

UniProt SummaryFUNCTION: Regulates Wnt proteins sorting and secretion in a feedback regulatory mechanism. This reciprocal interaction plays a key role in the regulation of expression, subcellular location, binding and organelle-specific association of Wnt proteins. Plays also an important role in establishment of the anterior-posterior body axis formation during development.

SUBUNIT STRUCTURE: Interacts with WNT3A. Interacts with WNT1, WNT3 and WNT5A.

SUBCELLULAR LOCATION: Golgi apparatus membrane; Multi-pass membrane protein. Cytoplasmic vesicle membrane; Multi-pass membrane protein.
