Background InformationMCM4, minichrome maintenance deficient 4 (S. cerevisae), belongs to the super family AAA ATPase. There are 6 MCM proteins (2-7). The MCM complex is essential for initiation and DNA replication but their mechanism for regulation is poorly understood. The MCM protein family has been found in all eukaryotes but not in prokaryotes except for a MCM related protein found in Archaea. Each MCM subunit has a different affinity for one another forming its own subcomplex. MCM4, MCM6, and MCM7 bind together to form a trimeric complex sometimes referred to as the MCM core.
