Application Overview

Heating baths are commonly found in many types of laboratories.

Temperature plays a major role in the kinetics of chemical and biological reactions, and it is often necessary to warm-up reaction mixtures in order to obtain the expected results. For many types of reactions, it is also important to keep the temperature constant and regulated, and a water bath can be used for this purpose.

Heating baths may be used in molecular biology and biology laboratories for the following:
  • To carry out reactions at a specific temperature, often around 30-40°C, to mimic mammalian’s internal temperature conditions for optimum enzyme activity
  • To warm-up media and parenteral solutions before injections
In chemistry laboratories, heating baths may also be found in rotary evaporators.
