Reuptake and Vesicle Transporters
The regulation of synaptic transmission depends upon manipulating the concentration and longevity of neurotransmitter in the synaptic cleft. Post-release, this regulation often involves the reuptake of the neurotransmitter and ultimately the packaging of new or recycled neurotransmitter into presynaptic vesicles. Millipore's numerous antibodies against reuptake-related proteins are often used as postsynaptic or perisynaptic markers. Vesicle transporters are restricted presynaptically, and Chemicon antibodies from Millipore against related proteins make excellent presynaptic markers. VGLUT1 is expressed in a subset of glutamatergic neurons and transports glutamate into native synaptic vesicles. Anti-VGLUT1 (Cat. No. AB5905) mainly labels nerve fibers and terminals.
