      Biological Information
ImmunogenA synthetic 19-mer peptide, corresponding to aa 26-44 from the secreted amphiregulin of human origin.
ConcentrationPlease refer to the Certificate of Analysis for the lot-specific concentration.
      HostRabbit
SpecificityRecognizes a glycoprotein of 18.5-22.5kDa, identified as amphiregulin (AR). Antibody is directed against the region of AR, which binds to heparin and is highly specific to AR. It shows no cross-reaction with EGF, TGFalpha, or HB-EGF. In vitro, AR functions as an autocrine growth stimulator to derive proliferation of colon carcinoma cells, normal and oncogene-transformed mammary epithelial cells, cervical carcinoma cells, prostate cancer cells, and keratinocytes. AR is important in development of human placenta and murine mammary gland.

      Entrez Gene Number
Entrez Gene SummaryThe protein encoded by this gene is a member of the epidermal growth factor family. It is an autocrine growth factor as well as a mitogen for astrocytes, Schwann cells, and fibroblasts. It is related to epidermal growth factor (EGF) and transforming growth factor alpha (TGF-alpha). This protein interacts with the EGF/TGF-alpha receptor to promote the growth of normal epithelial cells and inhibits the growth of certain aggressive carcinoma cell lines. This encoded protein is associated with a psoriasis-like skin phenotype.

      UniProt Number
UniProt SummaryFUNCTION: SwissProt: P15514 # Bifunctional growth-modulating glycoprotein. Inhibits growth of several human carcinoma cells in culture and stimulates proliferation of human fibroblasts and certain other tumor cells.
SIZE: 252 amino acids; 27895 Da
SUBCELLULAR LOCATION: Membrane; Single-pass membrane protein.
SIMILARITY: SwissProt: P15514 ## Belongs to the amphiregulin family. & Contains 1 EGF-like domain.
MISCELLANEOUS: AR is a protein containing cysteines in disulfide linkage(s) that are essential for its biological activity. AR may contain oligosaccharides and/or lipid moieties that are not obligatory for the biological activity.
