Background InformationCalcineurin is a serine/threonine protein phosphatase involved in the mediation of signal tranduction in a wide variety of cellular responses. Calcineurin has been linked to Pmk1 MAP kinase and PI pathways, as well as to members of the small GTPase Rab/Ypt family and Type II myosin. Furthermore, calcineurin participates in the transduction of extracellular signals to the nucleus by dephosphorylation of members of the NFAT family of transcription factors. These linkages demonstrate calcineurin's multifunctional capabilities in the regulation of calcium signaling.

      • Western Blotting
      Biological Information
ImmunogenKLH-conjugated synthetic peptide corresponding to Calcineurin.
      HostRabbit
SpecificityThis antibody recognizes both the Aα and Aβ, the major catalytic subunit gene isoforms of calcineurin in most tissues; may also react with the testis form, Aγ. This antibody has very high sensitivity and specificity, which allow detection of calcineurin in tissues where expression is low, such as lymphoid tissue. Reacts with calcineurin of all mammalian species.
      Species Reactivity
      • Mammals
Species Reactivity NoteReacts with human, mouse, and rat. Predicted to react with all mammals based on 100% sequence homology.

UniProt SummaryFUNCTION: Calcium-dependent, calmodulin-stimulated protein phosphatase. This subunit may have a role in the calmodulin activation of calcineurin. Dephosphorylates HSPB1 and SSH1.
      CATALYTIC ACTIVITY: A phosphoprotein + H2O = a protein + phosphate.
      COFACTOR:Binds 1 Fe3+ ion per subunit.
Binds 1 zinc ion per subunit.
SUBUNIT STRUCTURE: Composed of two components (A and B), the A component is the catalytic subunit and the B component confers calcium sensitivity. Interacts with TORC2/CRTC2, MYOZ1, MYOZ2 and MYOZ3.
SUBCELLULAR LOCATION: Nucleus By similarity. Note: Colocalizes with ACTN1 and MYOZ2 at the Z line in heart and skeletal muscle By similarity.
SEQUENCE SIMILARITIES: Belongs to the PPP phosphatase family. PP-2B subfamily.
