Background InformationSquamous cell carcinoma antigen recognized by T-cells 3 (UniProt: Q15020; also known as SART-3, Tat-interacting protein of 110 kDa, Tip110, p110 nuclear RNA-binding protein) is encoded by the SART3 (also known as KIAA0156, TIP110) gene (Gene ID: 9733) in human. Tip110 is a ubiquitously expressed protein that plays important roles in several known physiological and pathophysiological processes, including control of gene transcription, regulation of protein stability, and stem cell pluripotency and differentiation. Its expression is reported to be low in the normal tissues and in non-proliferating cells but is highly elevated in several malignant tumor cell lines, cancerous tissues, and in stem cells. It associates transiently with U6 and U4/U6 snRNPs during the recycling phase of the spliceosome cycle. Under hypoxic conditions, Tip110 is shown to be degraded via the ubiquitin-proteasome system and its levels are regulated in a p53-dependent manner. Tip110 levels are shown to be significantly down-regulated in metastatic melanoma cells under hypoxic conditions. Four isoforms of Tip110 have been described that are produced by alternative splicing. (Ref.: Timani, KA, et al. (2015). Mol. Cell Biol. 35(13); 2254-2264; Liu, Y., et al. (2015).
