DescriptionRecombinant, human heregulin expressed in E. coli. Human recombinant heregulin whose DNA sequence encoding the EGF domain of heregulin α (amino acids 177-241) expressed in and purified from E. coli. The expressed protein consists of 65 amino acids with a predicted molecular weight of approximately 7 kDa.
BackgroundIn addition to the well-studied neurotrophic factors and their receptors, many other growth factors and cytokines have been identified which exhibit proliferative or neuroprotective effects. Heregulin is one member of a family of structurally related polypeptides, which includes the epidermal growth factor, transforming growth factor-alpha, cripto-1, amphiregulin, and several viral growth factors. Heregulin has been shown to mediate growth regulatory functions through the epidermal growth factor receptor.
