      DescriptionAnti-TFIIF-alpha Antibody
      Alternate Names
      • General transcription factor IIF subunit 1
      • General transcription factor IIF 74 kDa subunit
      • Transcription initiation factor IIF subunit alpha
      • TFIIF-alpha
      • Transcription initiation factor RAP74
Background InformationTFIIF, a general transcription initiation factor, is a heterodimer composed of 74 kDa, GTF2F1 (Rap74), and a 30 kDa (GTF2F2) subunits. TFIIF is involved in transcription initiation and elongation, and the CTD of GTF2F1 binds to the RNA polymerase II enzyme, the general transcription factor TFIIB, and a CTD phosphate, FCP1. Studies point to TFIIF involvement in both early and late transcriptional stages. Data also suggest that GTF2F1 is involved in the in the recycling of the RNA Polymerase II via FCP1's CTD-specific phosphatase activity.

      UniProt Number
UniProt SummaryFUNCTION: TFIIF is a general transcription initiation factor that binds to RNA polymerase II and helps to recruit it to the initiation complex in collaboration with TFIIB. It promotes transcription elongation.

SUBUNIT STRUCTURE: Heterodimer of an alpha and a beta subunit. Interacts with GTF2F2 and CTDP1. Interacts with TAF6/TAFII80.

      SUBCELLULAR LOCATION: Nucleus.

INDUCTION: Up-regulated in response to enterovirus 71 (EV71) infection.

PTM: Phosphorylated on Ser and other residues by TAF1 and casein kinase II-like kinases.

SEQUENCE SIMILARITIES: Belongs to the TFIIF alpha subunit family.

CAUTION: Was reported (Ref.9) to have a protein kinase activity and to autophosphorylates on Ser-385 and Thr-389.
